If you grew up in the tri-state area and was into what was going on in the scene at the time, you’ll remember that between ‘97-‘03, was a great time. Which incidentally are also the same years that The Movielife were active.
Obviously, there were a ton of bands coming out of Long Island at the time that were pretty rad. But I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for The Movielife. I remember being in high school and just blasting this out of a friend’s car while driving around aimlessly and screaming at the top of our lungs and stopping for the occasional 7-11/Quick Check pit stop.
The Movielife, definitely makes me miss my youth.
Quote
I’m begging you to kill, to free, to be, to be my angel; angel of mercy. Because I’ve tried and failed to fall upon my silver sword; redemption. But it’s the nature of the beast to slay, the boney hand that reaps. I beg you now on bloody broken knees, slay it while it sleeps, Each breath haunted by dreams of horrors committed by hands oddly familiar yet twisted and curved. The mental imagery pours out upon the table like so much evidence, like photos of a scene. Of memories I couldn’t burn from my mind with burning knives. Traces of crimson cross the door frame and my dirty jeans, But I simply can’t recall how I got home again or how I got back into bed. And I’m tasting iron, I should be tasting silver. I’ve run it through my mind, this isn’t suicide, this is self defense. So please remember me for the boy I used to be, for the smiles, For the miles we stalked back in Jersey. And she said “this song reads like your saying goodbye.” And I’m saying goodbye. Scared to sleep perchance to dream, to wake sweaty and shaking from the screams. No more nights with their eyes. No more nights.

Despite the Tupac drama bullshit, Biggie was still pretty amazing.

Pat, Will, and I are in the living room listening to this right now. Even though “you know who” kind of ruined them for me, they’re still amazing.

Dude, this was such a good day. And at 4:01, you could kind of see my head a bit. We need to do a show and follow it with Tiny’s again.
Not the best sound, but a video of Forgetters Performing at Generation Records.
Also, if you wait til the end of the song, the camera starts showing the crowd. You can see me, Dustin, and I think Christine…maybe even Alfie a little.

This band (though called The London Suede in the US), is one of the bands that had a huge hand in the whole britpop movement back in the late 80s. There really wasn’t an album of theirs I didn’t like.
Every time I listen to them, I can’t help but think of simpler times in my life. This band will always remind me of being in high school and not having a worry in the world other than where I was going to skate to and what show I was going to next.
I miss those days.

I was thinking about what to post tonight, and then Pat started playing this on the speakers, and it reminded me about how much I actually enjoy Kaz’s music. Pat mentioned how one of the best things about this song is how sincere he’s actually being; I can’t say I disagree.

The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. It ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. But you gotta be willing to take the hits and not pointing fingers and say you ain’t where you wanna be cause of him or her or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you!
